HOW IT STARTED
From Local Cafés to Shared Tables
I’m a boba lover and coffee drinker who’s always looking for a new spot to try. After ordering, my eyes naturally wander to the game shelf—if there is one. I often find a few familiar favorites, like Uno and Jenga, with little else to explore. Many times, worn cards, damaged boxes, or missing pieces make what’s available less inviting to play.
As a longtime tabletop gamer, I know there are plenty of games that are easy to learn and a great fit for a café visit, even for people who rarely play. I wanted to help more people discover those games and make it easier for local venues to keep a welcoming game library.
That idea became Tabletop Shepherd. We curate, maintain, and refresh game libraries for local venues so guests can try something new and enjoy time together around a table.
ABOUT ME
Hi, I’m James, Founder of Tabletop Shepherd
I’ve been playing, teaching, and collecting board games for over 15 years, building a personal library of more than 400 titles along the way. Over time, I became the go-to teacher and host, the person who learns the rules, chooses games for the group, and makes sure everyone feels welcome at the table.
I’ve also spent years hosting recurring game nights and volunteering to help run monthly community events attended by more than 30 players. Those experiences taught me a simple lesson:
“A great game library isn’t about having the most games, it’s about having the right games for the space, the people, and the time available.”
I created Tabletop Shepherd to bring that experience to local venues, helping business owners offer welcoming game experiences that encourage guests to stay, play, and return.
